Glutathione and the Role of Inflammation in MS
In his book, Glutathione: Your Best Defense Against Aging, Cellular Damage and Disease, Dr. Keller discussed neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis) and wrote:
It is impossible to argue that these are not devastating illnesses and a myriad of studies have associated them casually with inflammation. The question that remains is, if they are associated with increased free radical production (a given in states of inflammation) will ‘rebalancing the system with antioxidants prove clinically beneficial?’ ”
Dr. Keller’s question continues to be answered by scientific studies that propose that “antioxidants may inhibit the development and progression of MS lesions.” (Schreibelt, 2007— Follow this link to read the entire text of the published abstract on this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17761296
A British study discussed the dangerous free radical nitric oxide and its derivative peroxynitrite and the role they play in inflammatory blood-brain-barrier dysfunction. (Giovannoni 1998— Follow this link to read the entire text of the published abstract on this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9762676
In the March 2011 journal Multiple Sclerosis, researchers at the University of Kansas Medical Center concluded that in patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis that showed an absence of measurable inflammation, oxidative stress continued to cause a functional decline in the patients. This was shown by lower levels of glutathione in the brain. (Choi 2011— Follow this link to read the entire text of the published abstract on this study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20921235
The researchers confirmed that glutathione (GSH) is “a key antioxidant in the brain.”
Dr. Keller’s Explanation of Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia still remains a condition in which there is no specific test to determine diagnosis. Anyone who suffers from fibromyalgia can attest to the chronic pain which occurs on a daily basis. The pain has been described by some as aching, numbing, shooting, and/or debilitating. Tingling sensations and headaches are also a common complaint of patients. Fatigue is common – as many people are not able to sleep through the night.
To determine if an individual has fibromyalgia, a doctor will apply pressure to specific areas on the body. These areas are known as pressure points. There are upwards of 18 areas which can be tested for tenderness. If tenderness is found in more than half of these spots, fibromyalgia is usually found to be the culprit.
Research is showing that many who have fibromyalgia also have a form of malnutrition. It is important to understand that you do not have to be underweight to suffer from malnutrition. If your body is not nourished with the proper amount of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, it cannot function properly–plain and simple.
The modern age has brought fast food and junk foods to the foreground. While many are eating well, they are not necessarily eating properly. This can lead to vitamin deficiencies, lowered immune system function and even the development of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension. I encourage everyone to supplement their diets for optimal health. With the proper combination of supplements you can equip your body for the healing process.

Dr. Keller’s Explanation of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
Individuals with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are not facing the normal tired feeling that accompanies many of us after a day at the office, or an afternoon of running after small children. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is an illness in which the individual suffers from a debilitating fatigue that even bed rest does not alleviate. This fatigue is usually partnered with muscle weakness and other symptoms – such as lapses in memory and a general unhealthy feeling.
It is known that individuals with CFS typically have lower oxygen levels in their brain, and blood flow to their muscles is often below par as well. While many may assume these individuals should exercise and move more, research tells us that exercise actually depletes oxygen levels in CFS patients even further. Oftentimes, CFS patients find their disease is misunderstood by family and peers, which can subsequently lead to depression.
A physician will test a patient he suspects of having chronic fatigue syndrome for muscle or nerve diseases, endocrine diseases, and other immune or auto-immune disorders. Once a diagnosis is made of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, many individuals feel a sense of relief at knowing what has been ailing them. As a physician and immunologist, I have found that high quality nutritional supplements do much to improve the immune system and energy levels of individuals suffering from CFS.

How can Original Glutathione Formula Boost Your Immune Health?
- Strengthens your immune system
- Defends against illness and disease
- Reduce inflammation by Increasing Glutathione levels
- Fights infection, injury, fatigue, stress and environmental toxins
- Functions as a powerful antioxidant and antitoxin
Those suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer, auto-immune diseases, heart disease, Alzheimers’s disease, liver disease, arthritis and asthma – to name just a few, consistently show depleted levels of Glutathione in their bodies. Glutathione is the body’s primary antioxidant, and is found in elevated concentrations into our 20’s, at which time the levels begin to decrease as we continue to age. Original Glutathione Formula™ supports the increased production of Glutathione in your body, making sufficient levels available to the liver and spleen – the body’s central mechanisms of detoxification and immune function.
Recent Medical Research: Glutathione (GSH) demonstrates Anti-viral Activity
Within an in vitro model of Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) infection, addition of GSH was able to decrease the amount of virus produced by infected cells. This report also demonstrated an acute depletion of GSH within HSV-1 infected cells less than 1hr after infection. The addition of GSH to the culture media increased the level of GSH in infected cells to levels just lower than that measured in non-infected cells and decreased the amount of virus produced by the infected cells by greater than 90%.

How did you learn about Dr. Rob Keller and begin taking his glutathione supplement?
I was introduced to Dr. Keller’s Glutathione research in 2008. I began taking the supplements and within a few shorts days I was sleeping through the night, for the first time since I had my hysterectomy in 2001. I introduced the product to my husband (he worked graveyard shifts) and he started sleeping soundly, too. Within a month – I notice my joint pains started to diminish. Although I was slender, I was not athletic. In 2010 I began my endeavor to be an endurance/long distance runner and within 7 months, I trained and ran the Las Vegas Half Marathon, thanks to the benefits of the supplements.
Had you tried other methods to increase glutathione levels?
Never heard of GSH until I was introduced to Dr. Keller’s products. Since doing so, I’ve realized that at almost 50 years old, I am in better health than I was in my 20′s.
I always recommend Rob Keller’s Original Glutathione Formula to others, especially athletes, who want to know what my secret to longevity is. Want to learn more, be sure to connect with Charlene on Facebook & Twitter!

How do you know if you need to increase your Glutathione levels?
How do you know if you need to increase you Glutathione levels?
Most serious chronic diseases are linked to low levels of Glutathione. If you suffer from diabetes, cancer, arthritis or serious infection, it may indicate that you are depleting your Glutathione. Take into account your general health, if you feel chronically fatigued and run down your levels of Glutathione may be low.
Glutathione is responsible for eliminating the oxidants that are created as a byproduct of the production of ATP in your cells. If there is not sufficient availability of Glutathione in your body to eliminate these oxidants that are constantly being produced by your cells, then your cells become unable to generate energy at full potential. Additionally, you wind up with elevated amounts of oxidants in your body. The medical literature supports the fact that too many oxidants in your body, coupled with a lack of sufficient levels of antioxidants (Glutathione) to eliminate them, can result in accelerated cellular aging.
What effects have been seen by increasing Glutathione levels?
Dr. Keller’s work in his private practice saw numerous patients, of all varying aliments, benefit from increasing Glutathione levels. Medical research is consistently identifying cause and effects of Glutathione. For example, can a Glutathione Precursor slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease?
Oral supplementation with the Glutathione (GSH) precursor (N-acetylcysteine (NAC)) slowed the progression of brain cell death in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The mice have lower levels of GSH within the brain due to impaired uptake of cysteine. Over time, these mice develop brain damage similar to that observed in Parkinson’s disease. Provision of NAC within the drinking water had profound effects on the level of GSH and brain damage observed within the brains of aged mice and represents an option for the future treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Benefits of Raising Glutathione Levels for Hypertensive & Type 2 Diabetes Patients
Beginning in our 20’s the levels of Glutathione in our body begins to decline, and by the ages of 70 – 80, these levels can drop to as low as 30% – 40% of what we had available to us in early adulthood. The cause of this decline may be related to a decrease in the body’s ability to create Glutathione as efficiently as when we were young, or it could be that as we age, our body’s requirement for Glutathione may elevate significantly due to the natural decline of our overall health, and the inflammation and oxidative stresses that may accompany this decline. It is interesting to point out that certain studies have discovered that individuals who have lived 100+ years have levels of Glutathione in their bodies that are higher than any other age category; save those of young healthy adults (20 – 30 year olds). Proper Glutathione supplementation with Rob Keller MD’s Original Glutathione Formula™ may help to restore normal healthy levels of Glutathione in your body, giving your body the tool necessary to effectively combat the aging process and common ailments.
Increasing Glutathione and Nitric Oxide levels shown to benefit hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes
This Italian trial demonstrates the beneficial effects of long-term supplementation with a known Glutathione precursor (NAC) and L-arginine. The NAC served to increase Glutathione (GSH) levels, while L-arginine is broken down to produce Nitric Oxide which is known to promote increased blood flow. The study participants (Type 2 Diabetes + Hypertension) demonstrated significant decreases in several biomarkers including blood pressure and cholesterol. Overall, this study demonstrates the positive effects of increasing Glutathione levels and the potential benefits that result from long-term use.

Glutathione Linked To Restoring Memory
Glutathione Restores Memory of Aged Mice
In this study it was shown that old mice “remember” via a different mechanism compared to younger adult mice. Oral supplementation with a known Glutathione Precursor (NAC) was given to the aged mice and they were found to “remember” more closely to adult mice. Overall, this study provides evidence suggesting that GSH within the brain decreases as a consequence of aging, and that increasing Glutathione levels reverts the “aged” brain function back to a younger adult state.*

Glutathione supplementation may promote liver health
“Without glutathione, your liver, which cleanses all the toxins you ingest or inhale and acts as a washing machine, could no longer cleanse any poison or toxin, as glutathione is, in a sense, the detergent for the washing machine.” Robert H Keller MD, MS, FACP, AAHIVS, excerpt from Glutathione: Your Best Defense Against Aging, Cellular Damage and Disease
Glutathione supplementation may promote liver health.
Within this animal model, mice were fed a restricted diet that promoted liver disease. Administration of Glutathione promoting therapies was able to reduce expression of harmful pro-inflammatory genes within the liver. Additionally, serum levels of liver enzymes (indicative of liver damage) were restored to normal within mice feed a restricted diet but supplemented with Glutathione promoting therapies.
