Why Glutathione Rapid Boost™ Is a Healthy Energy Drink for Athletes

RKMD Blog 6 years ago

Denise Harrison is the Director of Marketing, at RobKellerMD® When Denise turned 40, she decided that she was going to revolutionize her fitness and stamina, by challenging herself to a goal that seemed almost impossible at the time.  Denise decided she would run fifty half-marathon races, by the age of fifty.  Her 50×50 story was followed by family, friends, customers of RobKellerMD® and our international Affiliate team.  Many people were inspired by her goal, and the realization that each individual person can define how they choose to age.  For Denise, getting older (and better), means staying fit, healthy and full of energy, thanks to choosing the right supplements every day.

Daily Vitamin Requirements for Physically Active Adults

Understanding the increased nutritional needs for athletes, and adults over fifty years of age, is essential.  Eating a balanced diet, and choosing the right supplements, can not only improve your fitness and endurance, it can also help you avoid long-term injuries.  Clinical studies reveal that the following nutrients offer significant wellness and performance benefit, to athletes.

  1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a key component in the development of collagen, which is a protein your body uses to make tissue, including tendons, ligaments and blood vessels, and in the maintenance of cartilage, bones and teeth.   Vitamin C also assists with hypertension, by increasing the strength of the arterial walls, and helps reduce stress by promoting better regulation of cortisol.

  1. L-Theanine

Professional athletes rely on L-Theanine to give them the same energy boost as they would receive from caffeine, but without the side effects of withdraw, or jitteriness.  And clinical studies have reported that L-Theanine promotes muscle repair, by gently reducing stress and cortisol levels, improving pre-workout, and intra-workout focus and energy.

  1. Selenium

Selenium deficiency is a problem, because the trace mineral is essential to thyroid function and a healthy immune system.   Selenium is combined to form antioxidant enzymes and selenoproteins, which regulate gland function, boost cell health and immunity, and help reduce the risk of auto-immune diseases.

  1. Quercetin

A recent study by the Department of Pathology and Diagnostics at the University of Verona (Italy), revealed that flavonoids (including quercetin) also offer anti-viral properties, helping the body resist infection, inflammation and even certain types of allergic responses to histamines.

  1. N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine

Glucosamine is the repair team, inside your body, that creates long chains called GAGs, or glycosaminoglycans, which are necessary to repair joints and cartilage.  The science is a little complicated, but GAGs are the main component in proteoglycans (PGs), which combine with collagen, to build cartilage.

  1. Theobromine

Fun fact; did you know that the ancient Mayans invented hot chocolate?  The truth behind the myth, is that cacao is high in theobromine, an alkaloid that acts similar to a high dose of caffeine (but without the negative side-effects).  Mayans gave their warriors cacao as a natural stimulant, that promoted strength and endurance.  Modern day treadmill, marathon or weight lifting warriors can expect the same result by balancing a healthy dose of theobromine daily.

  1. N-Acetyl Cysteine

One of the amazing things about glutathione, is that it is easily recycled within the body.  The amino acid cysteine is responsible for helping to restore levels of glutathione in cells, to improve protection against free radicals.   Athletes generate a high volume of free radicals through exertion and exercise, making cysteine an essential to prevent cellular damage.

  1. L-Glutamine

It is no use building muscle volume and strength, if you can’t retain it.  Research has demonstrated that glutamine supplements help athletes to retain muscle mass by reducing the breakdown of proteins, and improving glycogen synthesis (or storing up glycogen in muscles).  Did you know that marathon runners frequently get colds or a flu virus, several days after competing?  The cause of ‘runners flu’ can be attributed to a deficiency of glutamine.  Extreme physical exertion depletes the stores normally found in muscles, and that contributes to a suppressed immune system.

  1. Vitamin B6, B12 and Niacin

Red blood cells count on these three nutrients, to repair and produce more cells.  Vitamin B6 acts like a blocking agent, when muscle stored glucose in ATP energy breaks down. In dietary sources, it’s found in offal, meat, fish and some vegetables and dairy products.
